RICH FISHER'S CNN / POTOMAC VIDEO EXPERIENCE

1997 - 1999

CNN / NewSource is an affiliate service of CNN. They do news for hundreds of local broadcast stations across the country.
At the Washington Bureau of CNN / NewSource, located in the Potomac Video offices, we were the Live Shot in front of the
Capitol Building when something big was happening in DC for hundreds of stations. I also uplinked one on one
interviews with people for local affiliates. That involved a one-man show of Camera, Audio, IFB, and Uplinking, usually
at odd hours. Aside from live shots from the studio, we also traveled to things like Hurricanes in North Carolina, and
Ice Storms in Maine. At these field events, I uplinked, switched, and dialed IFB. We would call a station that bought
time, usually in 5-minute blocks, and fire away one live shot with a package from 6AM to 2AM for a few days at a time.
I left CNN / NewSource because I was a Potomac Video employee contracted to CNN. I was informed that CNN was going to
go with a different contractor a year later (meaning that I would likely be out of a job or take a huge pay cut), which
they did.
