RICH FISHER'S KGB-FM / KPOP-AM EXPERIENCE

KGB-FM / KPOP-AM
1992
At KGB-FM in San Diego I primarily did overnights and a few fill in shifts. KGB was my first big station job. Going from
a 3KW station on Long Island to this big 50KW Classic Rock station was exciting. People called in from far away places
like Yuma, San Bernardino, and even Mexico! I also hosted a few club promotions for the station, usually down in Pacific
Beach. KPOP-AM was a semi-automated "nostalgia" station. This meant that someone had to be there 24/7 to play the music
(that was all on carts) and run the carted jocks / liners for the station. I ran the board a few nights a week, as well
as produced the live morning show on the station when needed. I left KGB/KPOP because it was clear that I would have to
wait years for a full time slot, because nobody ever left there! Leaving KGB and Southern California was probably the
hardest thing I ever had to do. I was offered a good paying TV job in New York, so off I went.
