RICH FISHER'S NY1 NEWS EXPERIENCE

NY-1 NEWS
1997
NY-1 is a 24-hour cable news station that covers all of New York City. The station has its state of the art studios in
Manhattan. At NY-1 I wore many hats. Although technically I was a Master Control operator, I did much more. I
controlled the Robotic Cameras on the set, ran the Audio Board and called up stills all at the same time. I also
programmed the commercial insertion system, a Sony L.M.S. That involved Bar Coding tapes and recording spots. I
switched on the BTS MCO switcher between live and taped news, having to keep perfect time. I ran the Audio Board for
a busy live call in sports show on Sunday Nights, as well as screening calls on occasion. When working overnight
shifts I also edited "skeletons", the main part of a news package. As an MCO, I fibered video to other area stations
like WWOR, downlinked from CNN / NewSource, as well as our two remote vehicles that were usually going live around
the city. NY-1 is owned by Time-Warner Cable, and that was how I got my next job at CNN / NewSource!
