RICH FISHER'S WBEA-FM EXPERIENCE

WBEA-FM "Beach Radio"
1993 - 1997
WBEA-FM "Beach Radio" was a commercial station that played "Hot Adult Contemporary" music in The Hamptons out
on Long Island. "Hot Adult Contemporary" can be best explained as the music that you would hear on a station calling
itself "Mix" something. WBEA covered Eastern Long Island, as well as Southern Connecticut and the Rhode Island coast.
The studio was a fully digital facility including Digital Editing for spot production, and IBM "DJ Assist" for spot
playback. I was a weekend on-air person, as well as production and promotions. I broadcasted live from clubs and fairs
all around Eastern Long Island.
WBEA was my first taste of digital radio. It was the first all-digital studio that I had worked at, and the first station that used a new type of automation on off-hours, now commonly known as "voice tracking".
WBEA moved from 104.7 to 101.7 in June, 2001 and briefly changed formats to Urban "The Blaze" in 2005, then to "101.7 The Beach" with a CHR format which it still has today.
The 104.7 frequency is now owned by Mohegan Sun Casino in New London Connecticut and is Classic Rock "The Wolf".
