RICH FISHER'S WCEM-FM EXPERIENCE

WCEM-FM "The Heat"
2003 - 2005
MTS Broadcasting's WCEM "106.3 The Heat" is an upbeat Hot
Adult Contemporary station that covers from Kent Island to Salisbury on Maryland's Eastern Shore, as well as Southern Anne
Arundel, Calvert, and St. Mary's counties on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. I did the Saturday mid-day airshift
at this fun station. "106.3 The Heat" is part of the MTS cluster of radio stations that also includes WTDK-FM "The Duck"
(oldies), WAAI-FM (country), and WCEM-AM (ESPN Radio). "106-3 The Heat" does a lot of live remotes and community
appearances around the Mid-Shore area, and is always busy being a big part of the community. MTS Broadcasting is run by a
great group of people that make the radio experience fun. All of the MTS stations reflect this by having a positive and
entertaining on-air presence. The music that "The Heat" plays is a mix of new rock leaning pop bands, retro 80's and 90's,
and even some dance leaning pop. It is an upbeat variety of music that is unique to this area. There isn't much in the
way of local competition, but "The Heat" does have plenty of out of market signals to compete with (Washington DC,
Baltimore, Salisbury). By being very local, fun, and allowing the jocks to be personalities and not liner-card readers,
"The Heat" does very well in the stations target area.
"106-3 The Heat" has its studio right on the Choptank River in Cambridge. I got to watch boats and ducks go by while I was
on the air! It's a wide river, so it's like broadcasting on the beach.
