RICH FISHER'S WLNY-TV EXPERIENCE

WLNY-TV "TV55"

1992 - 1996

WLNY-TV is a full power, commercial independent TV station that broadcasts from Long Island, NY. WLNY runs first-run syndicated programming like "Wheel Of Fortune" and "Rosie", as well as recent movies and News. WLNY also operates four low power UHF stations surrounding New York City, and they fiber their signal directly to Time-Warner in New York City. WLNY operates a split feed signal, meaning that some syndicated shows and movies have "syndex" blocking WLNY from airing them in New York City. To counter this, WLNY uses the fiber feed to send alternate programming during shows that otherwise would be blocked out. At WLNY I started off being a Master Control Operator. I switched live between programming and commercials, switched in and out of the live newscast, and ran back up spot reels in case the digital commercial server crashed. I was also the editor tasked with taking out "inappropriate content" and time-fitting the movies that we aired. I eventually moved up to the News Department and became the "PM Operations Manager" for the crew. I Technical Directed the live 10PM news whenever needed, as well as did Audio, Ran Tape, Camera, and every other Control Room function. I also edited between three and five packages a night, as well as editing content on the NewSource reels. I eventually left WLNY-TV because the hour long 10PM news was going to be cut to a half hour newscast. From here I went to a new start-up operation called "GSN - Global Shopping Network" with a bunch of other WLNY employees.
