RICH FISHER'S WRCN-FM / WRHD-AM EXPERIENCE

WRCN-FM / WRHD-AM
1990 - 1992
WRCN-FM / WRHD-AM was my first commercial radio job that I
actually got paid for! I had previously interned at WPLJ-FM
in NYC, but that was mostly gopher work. I started out as a board operator for WRHD-AM1570, inserting the local spots and
ID's during NY Knicks, NY Rangers, and NY Islanders games. After awhile I was going to promotions and helping set up for
the WRCN jocks. After a few months the Program Director (a great guy named Matt Mangas who taught me everything there is)
at WRCN let me fill in a shift while everyone else was at the station's Christmas party. I then became a regular weekday
fill in announcer / over-nighter with a regular Weekend shift on WRCN-103.9. I hosted station events and promos,
everything from driving in parades to MCing concerts. I got to meet some pretty big bands at many of these gigs, and for
a 21 year old, it was a great thing. This was a truly fantastic radio station to work at. The people that worked here
at this time were extremely talented and taught me more than any college could. I left WRCN to try out the west coast -
and work at KGB-FM.
